“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:1-6 NIV
Key points
  • According to Dr Deb Snoddy, John’s Gospel is responsible for “dragging us back up to where we truly belong, with God.”

One of the best things about being part of The Gospel According to The Gospels podcast series was speaking with lots of different people about what is the good news of Jesus.

Deb Snoddy is a Biblical Studies lecturer at Catholic Institute of Sydney and founding member of the SCD Centre for Gospels Research.

She is a big fan of John’s Gospel and had a terrific expression for what it reveals to us about The Gospel of Jesus Christ: “Dragging us back up to where we truly belong, with God.”

According to Dr Deb Snoddy, John’s Gospel is responsible for “dragging us back up to where we truly belong, with God.”

What do you think of that?

Deb offered that as a neat summary of the purpose of Jesus descending from the heavens to earth.

Yes, there is much more to what Deb shared about The Gospel according to John’s Gospel but it’s worth pausing here.

Do you believe Jesus came to show us the way back to God?

Jesus clearly declared he is the only way to God the Father.

If you know and believe that, how does that Gospel truth instruct and guide you?
