Grammy-winning songwriter Jonas Myrin says Eclipse was born from a vision of unity, hope and heaven touching earth.
Key Points:
- Jonas Myrin, known for worship songs including 10,000 Reasons, co-wrote Delta Goodrem’s Eurovision entry Eclipse.
- He says the song was inspired by moments of unity, wonder and “glimpses of heaven”.
- Jonas hopes the song brings light, hope and connection to listeners around the world.
Delta Goodrem may be the one representing Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest, but behind the scenes of her popular entry Eclipse is Swedish Christian co-writer Jonas Myrin, who’s now on a “bonkers” journey supporting Australia’s candidate.
“It’s fascinating to me how you guys are on the other side of the world and so involved in this thing,” Jonas told Juice 107.3.
The Grammy award-winning songwriter has written for some of the biggest mainstream artists, including Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand and John Legend, but has deep roots in the church as co-writer for Matt Redman’s 10,000 Reasons and Lauren Daigle’s Let it Be a Hallelujah among many others.
Last year, rumour circulated online that Delta could represent Australia in Vienna, and Jonas – who’d been introduced to Delta previously – said if it proved true they should write the song together. In November, he got the call she’d been chosen and 10 days later he was in Australia for a songwriting session.
“The idea for Eclipse came to me on the plane,” Jonas said.
“I was thinking about those rare, almost supernatural moments in life that feel like glimpses of heaven – the kind of moments that stop you in your tracks and make you look up.
“An eclipse is one of those moments: the sun and moon are complete wild opposites, on different paths, but somehow [they] unite and create this moment of alignment and unity.”
There’s a symbolic beauty to the phenomena that reflects the original intention of the competition, and Delta’s goal as an artist.
“After World War II Eurovision was created as a way to unite Europe,” Jonas said.
“It was there to be a symbol of hope and a symbol of unity – to tell Europe that through music we can be united.
“Delta has such a heart for people, she’s always looking for what brings us together rather than our differences. You really feel that love when you’re around her.
“We had written together before in Los Angeles, so there was already a special creative flow between us.
“When we came together in Sydney to write for Eurovision and the new album, we were completely aligned from the start. It all just feels meant to be, this whole journey.”
Whether collaborating with a Christian artist, or writing in a mainstream session, Jonas’ desire is to “be a vessel” for God’s creativity and capture what he describes as “the spirit’s breath” on the work he’s doing.
“When the spirit breathes on something, the whole atmosphere shifts,” Jonas said.
“You can feel it, almost like the molecules change in the room.
“I get goosebumps and that’s usually how I know it’s something special, something beyond me, something that didn’t just come from us, but through us.
“With Eclipse that happened to all of us.”
Jonas’ desire is to “be a vessel” for God’s creativity and capture what he describes as “the spirit’s breath” on the work he’s doing.
Jonas’ heart to “connect heaven with earth” shaped his intention when presenting the idea for Eclipse, which ultimately won the vote of Delta’s board of judges to be her entry for Eurovision.
“My purpose in writing music is to create songs that truly help people,” Jonas said.
“Songs that meet you where you are and remind you that you’re not alone. Songs that lift the spirit, point us toward heaven, and bring a little more light into someone’s day even if it’s just for a moment.
“It’s not about where you come from or what you believe: if your heart is open, something deeper can reach you, wherever you are or whatever you’re going through.”
Delta Goodrem will perform Eclipse at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna, Austria. She is scheduled to compete in the second half of the Second Semi-Final on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
