The Kokoda Foundation ran their 17th annual Kokoda Challenge on the 17th July 2021 to help raise funds for their Youth Program.
Jessica, the Marketing Manager for the Kokoda Foundation, explains there are three different distances for the course; the 96km, 48km and 17km.
“It’s 96km on the Gold Coast that contests have to finish in 39 hours. So, no sleep in start at 7am on Saturday and you have until Sunday” she said.
The Youth Program is a 14 month program for 15 – 17 years old that includes, bush walking, community service, training to complete the 96km challenge and then a peak experience.
“So they’re going to South Australia to do an Afghan style camel track, so we’re going to incorporate the history of Kokoda through that. It’ll be a 10 day 100km trek through South Australia in the Flinders Ranges,” Jessica said.
With over 3000 people who participated in the Challenge they have so far raised over 1.2 million dollars and continue to educate people on the history of Kokoda.
