Juicey News: Mensshed Encourages ‘Connection, Community and Comradery’

By Micaela Aboody

Mensshed Labrador started out as the first one on the Gold Coast 13 years ago and has grown from 9 members to 150 members.

Member of the National Mensshed Association and Secretary for the Mensshed at Labrador, Len Thomson, explains it is a safe, friendly place for men to hang out with other guys and help the community.

“The cornerstones of Mensshed is connection, community and comradery,” he said.

Len explains they have three facets to the shed where members can make projects for themselves, contribute to the shed through BBQs and contribute to the community.

“We do a lot of work for the cardiac rehab section of Gold Coast hospital. We also put a rather large children’s cubby house in the children’s ward and when you see some of the kids in that area you can’t seem to do enough for them,” he said.

Messhed Labrador also mentors children teaching them different skills.
