Amy Griffin’s ‘The Tell’ is a very confronting read.

Key points:

  • ‘The Tell’ is a courageous account of survival and healing that will help readers feel seen and empowered to pursue their own journey for justice, healing and restoration.
  • Brittany warns readers: please take care of yourself if you choose to pick up this novel.
  • Brittany gives ‘The Tell’ 4 stars out of 5.

It is prefaced by a warning that the book contains details of sexual assault, however as a woman and a mother, I honestly found it so heartbreaking at times that I’m not sure why I kept reading.

Please hear my heart! This memoir is an incredibly powerful look into firstly how our bodies protect us from trauma, and secondly the strength that comes from sharing our stories and talking openly about the ugly reality that is abuse.

‘The Tell’ is a courageous account of survival and healing that will help readers feel seen and empowered.

It is a courageous account of survival and healing that I believe will help readers feel seen and empowered to pursue their own journey for justice, healing and restoration.

I personally felt somewhat triggered by parts of ‘The Tell’; not by WHAT happened, but because of HOW certain details were shared.

It broached the question for me – in this format, how much is too much?

Brittany warns readers: please take care of yourself if you choose to pick up this novel.

I would like to reinforce the warning at the start of the book – PLEASE take care of yourself if you choose to pick up this novel.

While it is a beautiful read and a reminder to keep a close eye on the young people in your life, it may be more appropriate for a different stage in your healing journey.

I applaud Amy for sharing so candidly. ‘The Tell’ does a beautiful job of detailing her story and reinforcing the strength that comes when you shake off the stigma around abuse and learn to use your beautiful voice!

I give this book 4 stars out of 5.
