TLDR: Jem Cassar-Daley joined Elerrina and Jodie in the studio to play her newly released single ‘Changes’ and talk about her music journey.

Jem Cassar-Daley, daughter of Australian Country singer Troy Cassar-Daley, explains from a young age she and her family have always played music together.

“We jammed in the house and around the kitchen table and it’s been the for front of our lives,” Jem said.

It wasn’t until she was about 15 that Jem really wanted to take music as a career path, upon finishing school she joined her dad on the road touring the country for a year before deciding it was what she wanted to do.

“Having dad as a mentor along the way and he was kind of a tour guide as well… we got to know each other really well,” she said.

While she hasn’t been able to do many live shows, Jem has been busy collaborating with different artists and writing songs and explains that writing with Pete Murray was a favourite highlight of hers this year.

“I had a bit of a fan girl moment thinking I play this guys [songs] at my gigs,” she laughed.

Jem says she loves that she can incorporate her piano into her music style which is a bit indie-pop and a little bit country.

“Piano is just so special to me, it’s just the core of everything that I do,” she said.

Her newly released single Changes is about relationship struggles and Jem says it is her most ‘heart on her sleeve’ song she has ever written.

Jem Cassar-Daley’s next gig is at HOTA next Friday 29th October.
