If there was a scientific formula that proved the existence of intelligent design, would the world embrace it, or would there still be questions about the origins of life?

Key points:

  • “I derived a scientific and mathematical proof that intelligent design was required for life on Earth,” Dr. Neil told Hope 103.2.
  • The aim of the book is to open up a conversation about how faith and scientific evidence can coexist.

Biochemist Dr. Neil Domigan says he’s discovered such a theorem, and his debut novel The Deity Constant couches the finding in a story of political intrigue, faith and power.

“I derived a scientific and mathematical proof that intelligent design was required for life on Earth,” Dr. Neil told Hope 103.2.

“And so, I decided to write a novel and embed this nonfiction in a fictional story.”

Set against a backdrop of rising authoritarianism and fractured alliances, The Deity Constant follows a rogue scientist whose discovery threatens to upend the world order. As governments scramble to control the implications, a shadow network emerges – one that sees divinity not as myth, but as a programmable force.

“I derived a scientific and mathematical proof that intelligent design was required for life on Earth,” Dr. Neil told Hope 103.2.

The aim in writing the book was to open up a conversation about how faith and scientific evidence can coexist – something Neil’s been curious about since his parents passed away.

“I lost my parents when I was a teenager,” Dr. Neil said.

“And so I’d had an interest in religion from an early age and obviously studied science and had an interest in how science and religion could intersect.”

That intersection where belief meets science is often seen as a point of conflict. But Neil views it differently.

The aim of the book is to open up a conversation about how faith and scientific evidence can coexist.

“The theorem I’ve derived is an objective theorem based on simple maths and scientific facts,” Dr. Neil said.

“I derived the theorem through conducting a thought experiment [where you] use deduction, logic, without actually doing an experiment [much like] Einstein in 1905 deriving the theory of relativity.”

When Neil applies this same reasoning to the question of how life began, Neil’s approach is both methodical and filled with wonder.

“At one point in Earth’s history there was no life, and at another point there was the first living organism,” Dr. Neil said.

“We can agree it was probably something simple, like bacteria.”

The odds of such life forming by chance, Neil explained, are staggeringly small.

“It’s equivalent to every person on Earth rolling a dice that’s got a million sides – and getting a six on every single dice,” Dr. Neil said.

Dr. Neil Domigan’s book The Deity Constant it out now.
