There seems to be a wave of reimagined Bible stories being brought to life through our television screens of late – ‘House Of David’ and ‘A.D The Bible Continues’ as well as the most popular series, ‘The Chosen’ (all of which can be viewed on Prime), however these all have something in common: they predominately tell the stories of the men.
Key points:
- ‘Her Story of Jesus’ is a great resource for your small groups or even family conversations around the dinner table.
- Author Katie Sampias adds voices, thoughts and emotions to these women whilst maintaining the cultural and biblical elements of the story.
- I would recommend this book to the women in my life – I give this book 5 stars.
Katie Sampias has broken the mould and brings depth and colour to the women of the Bible, both the famous characters such as Mary the mother of Jesus, and those who are lesser known, for example the little girl who Jesus heals.
‘Her Story of Jesus’ is a work of historical fiction in which Katie uses a combination of research, prayer and her imagination to bring the perspectives of these women alive.
She has included the relevant scriptures at the beginning of each story so that you can do your own reading and comparison.

The second half of the book includes the author’s reflections on each story as well as some questions to challenge the reader and get them thinking – “have you had a supernatural experience and how did it shape your faith?” and “Have you ever had to make a decision and how did you experience Jesus helping you?”
It would also be a great resource for your small groups or even family conversations around the dinner table.
Katie’s writing is simple yet thought-provoking. She adds voices, thoughts and emotions to these women whilst maintaining the cultural and biblical elements of the story.

I found myself tearing up on occasion – what a beautiful gift ‘Her Story of Jesus’ is, to be able to connect its female readers to the intimate side of Jesus, who meets us exactly where we are with such gentleness and grace.

I would recommend this book to the women in my life – I give this book 5 stars.
